Marmozets video for Onemanwolfpack

Marmozets

Marmozets are straight up awesome. I’m not really up for debating this. But incase anyone isn’t sure take a wee gander at this video for the opening track of their latest EP ‘Vexed’. ‘Onemanwolfpack’ sums up the bands blend of chaotic hardcore and garage rock swagger pretty well, and the video goes to prove they can bring the moves live. I literally can’t wait to catch them at Download schooling all the old men on the main stage. I say that as if I’m not an old man myself.

Profane posthumous download of Maida Vale session and demos

Profane

More awesome UK underground stuff today. Profane were a wonderful progressive metal influenced band, who unfortunately are no more. I say unfortunately, that’s an understatement, at the time it broke my heart. I fell in love with their debut LP ‘The Day We Scorched the Sky’ and when it got to the stage of their live session at Maida Vale for the Radio 1 Rock Show I thought all was well, and soon everyone would see what I saw in the band. Sadly, during the demo phases for album 2 circumstances got in the way and the band become no more.

Now however, they’ve incredibly kindly put the aforementioned Maida Vale session, which I have been vainly searching for nearly two years now, and the demos for the never completed second album up for download for FREE via their Bandcamp page. If you’re a fan of progressive metal, by that I mean progressive ideas and experimentation not technical playing and long songs, because that is NOT the same thing as progressive, then check this out.

Shadowboxer release TesseracT cover

Shadowboxer

Those of you who have followed Post-Blog as F**K! for a while will no doubt have heard me throw the name Shadowboxer about, usually attached to words like ‘awesome’ and ‘fuck’. Trier debut EP two cities, and their live session at Surrey University have been constants on my playlists ever since I discovered them last year. Their video cover of Scott Matthews song ‘Elusive’ solidified that position as one of my favorite UK artists. And then on top of all that they go and do this.

By this I of course mean their fantastic reinterpretation of probably my favorite TesseracT track ‘April’. It’s a wonderful arrangement and gives the whole track a totally different vibe than either Elliot’s or Dan’s version. That I now have three versions of this song featuring three vocalists I admire greatly is a real fucking treat for a music geek like myself. Not only is the track great but the video, shot by photographer Hana Laurie in Oslo is also pretty stunning. Nothing I like more than a moody video.

At this point I’m going to give up on writing, I can’t really do this thing enough justice. If you like music that is beautiful then you’ll like this. Otherwise I can only assume you’re deaf. Or stupid. In which case, get the fuck off my website. There is nothing for you here.

Bear Arms ‘New Skin’

Bear Arms ‘New Skin’ (Struggletown Records 2012)

1.Cities 2.Towers 3.Where I Lay My Head 4. The Apple and the Tree

Richard Wardrop – Vocals/Guitar, Keiran Hird – Vocals/Guitar

Lewis Mcgourty – Bass, Rory Morrison – Drums

Recorded, mixed and mastered by Owen Waldron

What’s wonderful about a well crafted song is that the genre of said song becomes entirely irrelevant. Bear Arms have somehow managed to do that four times. On the one CD. Which given their relatively short life span as a band is pretty impressive.

Funeral for a Friend lose drummer

Funeral For A Friend

This is pretty sad news for me. Funeral For A Friend have been a pretty seminal band for me, marking the soundtrack to the both the happiest times of my life and the occasional depressive episodes that I’m prone to. It sucked when guitarist Darren Smith left, but I was nothing but pleased with their latest LP ‘Welcome Home Armageddon’. Clearly, there was life in the machine and I’m sure there still will be even now that drummer Ryan Richardson has left as well, replaced by Pat Lundy (formerly of Rise to Remain), but I’ll miss him behind the kit. His vocal contributions in particular because, pitch perfect and emotive as Matt is, the band truly shine when those melodies are juxtaposed by Ryan’s caustic screams.

Ryan’s statement regarding his departure can be found after the jump. It’s great to know there’s no drama involved. Artist drama is probably the single dreariest thing known to man. Other than drum recording that is.

Hunt/Gather debut ‘Denver Shaking’ and ‘False Monuments’ art work

Hunt/Gather

With the latest track to be previewed from their upcoming full-length ‘False Monuments’, Hunt/Gather have revealed another musical side to the band. Along with the brooding post-hardcore of ‘Cold Furnace’ and the near uncontrolled aggression of ‘Pyramid Eyes’ we now have the sexual rock ‘n’ roll swagger that runs down the spine of ‘Denver Shaking’ like a booze induced chill.

I just got even more excited for this album. You should be too.

Monuments announce vocalist and sign to Century Media

Monuments 2012

It’s been a long time coming but British progressive metal band Monuments have finally announced their new vocalist, following the departure of their previous vocal duo team some time ago. Vocal duties for the band will now be handled by Matt Rose, apparently of the heavily electronic influenced band The Qemists. Who truth be told, I’ve heard the name of but never heard. Time for some research it would seem.

The band also announced they’ve signed with metal giant Century Media. No word as of yet on a release date for the now finished debut album, vocal sessions under the watchful eye of Dan Weller ( former Sikth guitarist and producer extraordinaire) were completed recently. But presumably such a date can’t be far away. Certainly those who have been following Monuments ever since the release of the ‘We Are The Foundation’ demo in 2010 will be positively champing at the bit to hear more from the band. I’m not sure what this means with regards to Basick Records and Monuments, as I seemed to think they were signed to Basick but that is apparently not the case. Or maybe it is but only so far as the UK goes? Who knows? Clearly not me.
